When you make a blunder
may I be the first to condone
and last to point a finger
or cast a stone

May I always speak the truth in love until
you have a chance for admittance or denial
never jumping to a verdict of guilt
and sentencing you without a trial

May I be the first to call
rushing to your side
dress up your sores
and dry the tearful eyes

May I shield you from stones cast your way
and flaming arrows from evil minds
assuage your prosecutors' dismay
until they leave us behind

May I help you on your feet
to encourage you and stay by your side
until you right your wrongful deeds
and again walk tall with chin up high

May we always have this temperament
like a peace loving dove
be slow in judgment
but quick to love
